Wand Issue

Got a question about wand usage. Starting off I bought a healing wand and gave it to my wizard. Could never use it. Left hand/right hand usage never came up in the combat screen, couldn't use it from inventory, et cetera. I then gave my cleric the healing wand and I could then use it. Gave it back to the wizard and once again it could not be used. Am I missing something or could this be some sort of bug? I'm playing the 1.12 version. Thanks!

Not a bug. While you can have a character equip a wand to be used as a weapon, wands and scrolls holding cleric spells can only be activated by Clerics, same thing with Wizards and items holding wizard spells.

Okay, thanks. I was under the assumption that since it was being sold by a wizard it was meant for wizards, much like how in PnP RPGs many magical items provide effects usually not associated with the user's class.
