How do you enter the first giant fortress, knowing that there is a magic force field that keeps repelling you and this seems to be the only way in? The other areas on the map are either too tough or inaccessible.

To enter the hill giant fortress, you'll have to continue with the story for a little bit first. That is, go through the mountain pass to Taneliz and take care of some things there. After that, you ought to be able to enter the fortress.
If you've gone to the manageable areas including the spider cave and don't think your party can handle the mountain pass, fight a few fairly high level random encounters to force a level up. If you can reach the appropriate level, I found that a useful spell to pick up for one of the particularly difficult fights in the mountain pass is Circle of Death, if I'm remembering the name right. Good luck.

By the way Pierre, you rock! I admit that at first I dismissed your game when I saw the announcement for it back in August and noticed the crude early 90's graphics, but then I finally tried the demo and I was blown away. Such an awesome implementation of turn-based D&D combat. This is the best turn-based RPG fighting system EVER made. The interface is also so simple and clear, I'm one of the people who stops playing a game the moment he's annoyed with anything in a UI. Yet there's never anything that caused me any trouble. Just so many options available with a few mouse clicks.
I'm a big fan of SRPGs on console but now I'll have a hard time ever going back.
Kudos for this great game! I'm 100% satisfied of my purchase. I'm showing it to a ton of people at my local D&D college club and so far everyone is blown away!
