Mage Armor

My mage armor seems to be permanent but I get no effects from it. When I try to wear armor like bracers +3 or cast mage armor on myself, it says I already have the effect. I am not getting the extra AC though.

You can't use the spell Mage Armor when you've already equiped Bracers of Armor. Instead of applying the biggest AC bonus (of Bracers and spell) the game will just give the message that you already have the effect.
In case of Bracers+3 you either stick to the +3 bonus from the bracers or you de-equip the bracers and then cast the spell for a +4 AC bonus.

So, when the game says you already have the effect, I'd assume that you either have bracers on or the spell is in effect already. De-equip the bracers, then rest. Note your AC, now cast the spell. Still no effect on AC visible?
