Mac users beware - do NOT install

Postby calmforce » Sun Jul 05, 2020 10:54 am

Allright, that should teach me.

After installing KOTC2 and the first crash, several programs stopped working. Among them my most essential task manager (omnifocus) and password manager (1password).

This is just awful, I have never had anything like this happening to me!

Same error message every time:

Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT)
Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000
Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY

Termination Reason: DYLD, [0x2] Wrong architecture

Application Specific Information:
dyld: launch, loading dependent libraries

Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenAL.framework/Versions/A/OpenAL
Referenced from: /System/Library/Frameworks/SpriteKit.framework/Versions/A/SpriteKit

The windows installer comes with an openAL installer from 2009, so sound to me like something similar is going on in the app installer. I hope someone else might help out with how to fix it - my best idea is to try to find the mac openAL framework for your system somewhere else (both brew and xcode sdk seem like possible paths), and replase the openAL in the framework folder with that (after backup of folder to folder with similar name if manual copy is needed). I hope Pierre can confirm, or suggest a different fix; like if the installer is indeed giving some sort of revert option.

Yes, I had already tried looking for another way to reinstall the OpenAL, but I was a) not sure whether anything else was changed and b) could not find a way do do so on the mac.

-> am reformatting my workhorse mac from my last time machine backup and hope that will solve the problem. That was very very painful...

This might have helped, but I was not sure if anything else was broken:

An analysis of the problem from the kind folks at 1 Password:

Thanks for sending that. I don't believe this particular issue has ever come up before, and it appears that some preferences have been tampered with. I don't know why or how that would be, or how you might resolve it without an OS reinstall, as it looks like it is affecting the system Group Containers and anything else that uses that. I'm not 100% sure of the effect, as it's not something I've seen before, but it's worth noting either way as it's at least affecting 1Password. A few questions:

1. What was the process that cause that exactly? Based on the result, I'm guessing it may have required admin rights, and perhaps there were other things you noticed.

2. What exactly is the issue you're running into when trying to reinstall 1Password? https://1password.com/downloads/

The specific errors in the crash report are red herrings I believe (e.g. "Wrong architecture"), since they all seem to just stem from Group Containers having been tampered with. Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Pierre, please take the current Mac version offline as long as this issue persists.

A reinstall solved this problem but was very annoying.
