These things clutter up my inventory, in the vain hope (so far) that some quest will require a handwriting sample, necromancy, or a 3000 gp diamond. Do I need to hang on to this crap? Notes especially should just go in your journal rather than being something you have to cart around.
Try destroying them, if it's a quest item the game won't allow it, otherwise it will be destroyed.
'Say there is a chunk of meat. Pirates will have a banquet and eat it! But heroes will share it with other people. I want all the meat!!' - Luffy in One Piece
I never tried that because you seem like the kind of DM who would let me destroy a vital clue and say "too bad, you missed it." In a more handholding game like Final Fantasy I wouldn't worry. Well, thanks, there's no reason I would ever have hung on to those stinky corpses if I hadn't thought they were put in to be part of a quest, and I'll happily be rid of them.
I carried that till the end too, then I went around Taneliz looking for its use hoping I hadn't missed it by killing the Slaver Lords too early, and I found the guy who will take it. It really only saves you some gold though, I was expecting more.
