I've been playing since the download link showed up in my e-mail.
Some parts of the game are brilliant!
Some are so flawed that I gnash my teeth in frustration.
Here's my experiences so far:
1. The U.I. needs more clarity. Casting spells can be difficult--there's no quick and easy way to get a spell cast from the character you want to use. I end up pressing the cast button then using the arrows to page back and forth to get to the character that I want to select. And figuring out the Party Inventory vs. backpack spaces is very weird.
2. The first big fight with the guy on the other side of the fire; the one with the girl that can be rescued with an application of Holy power. First of all, WOW, way too difficult way too soon. I understand making things challenging but the game needs more ramp-up to such a tough fight.
Then, I had to replay the fight at least 10x before it would teleport me successfully after beating it without crashing to desktop.
Lastly, I will admit I wasn't paying adequate attention to his monologue after beating him--are we supposed to have all our hard-earned treasure disappear when we are teleported away after the fight? Big disappointment.
3. I have a Warlock in the party yet I don't get to select the Arcane Knowledge option in dialogues. I have two characters that can cast arcane spells (counting my rogue) yet apparently you need a specific wizard character to do that.
4. (Spoiler, sorry) The fight with the two mummies and the psychic vampire? Seriously? Too much, too soon.
5. Don't Bards get spells too? And it would really enhance their usefulness if they could make a variety of skill checks to help fill the gaps if you're missing a class. They are supposed to have Bardic Knowledge, after all.
6. Evasion is lame. I'd like to throw my vote towards how it is supposed to be in 3.0/3.5, allowing a sneaky character to skate without any damage on successful reflex saves.
7. I must have jumped into the fire pit before the first big fight a couple of times hoping it was actually a campfire. Until you see an actual campfire, it looks like one to me.
At this point, I might stick the game on the shelf to wait for some bug patches and refinements before I take it back off. I find myself more frustrated than enjoying myself as I play right now.
