I'm trying to get around (testing) upping DEX instead of INT because of the terrible RNG initiative rolls and guess what... that turned out to make IronMan Archmage very viable so far (currently at the fight where you recruit Pizzara).
I was looking for more spell slots for Mage Knight, because spell progress is much worse than Champion and Storm Warrior.
New spell levels and new slots for current levels appear noticeably slower.
I was hoping to improve it with intelligence items.
I think it is not fair when compared to other abilities that are giving normal bonuses to various things.
+1 single save requires 4 ability points.
There are some pure slot items, but they are cloth type or better to use by full spellcaster.
I could increase base intelligence, but it not worth when calculating general benefits, since I am focused on what this class is better at, a frontline warrior part with only non DC support spells.
My first go on tutorial was str 18, dex 14, con 18, int 12, wis 8, cha 8 (Mage Knight has already higher reflex and will as class).
Later I realized that +1 spell level 1 slot from int 12 is minor benefit when I can have dex 18 instead (int 8).
It affects my initiative, dex bonus to both AC (using medium armor, often being melee target), attacks of opportunity (I had a chance for more than 3 on occasion, I use trip a lot, I am often adjacent with few enemies, later even tried reach weapons for access to more targets), and chance to hit with bows (I found that useful on occasion).
So, finally, I will switch to str 18, dex 18, con 18, int 8, wis 8, cha 8, and keep increasing str during level ups (melee for most time, maneuvers like trip and grapple and bull rush to succeed and resist, various effect checks, bow damage, low class fortitude, weight for pack mule).
You may ask, why Mage Knight.
I already have 1 Fighter (warrior) and 4 full spellcasters (more crowd control focused than damage), Wizard (arcane), Druid (divine), Psionicist (psionics) and Cleric (divine, this one I will probably switch to Bishop, since there are more than 2 domains that really interest me).
I wanted someone for frontline to help Fighter, but more different than pure warrior type, so semi spellcaster.
I am going for Paladin Asharzaelle (warrior/divine) and Warlock Pizarra (arcane/psionics), so variety is something like 1.5 warrior, 1.5 arcane, 2.5 divine, 1.5 psionics (+ 0.5 warrior and 0.5 arcane from Mage Knight to complement, and most important skills like warrior/nature/arcane/psionics are already covered).
Too bad that Mage Knight does not have spellcasting progress similar to Champion (and Storm Warrior), while both have the same warrior capability (details in my other comparison post).
